Gov. Jon Corzine, still sporting his pink breast cancer awareness ribbon on his lapel, spent 6 minutes on Good Day NY on Fox’s Channel 5 this morning, kicking off his day of focusing on TV and radio to drive his campaign message.
He said he’s more able than Chris Christie or Chris Daggett to get the state’s economy out of its recession sooner and stronger. He specifically cited education and health care as issues on which he is “way, way different in how we would address” than his opponents. And he touted his accomplishments in reducing state spending and reducing the state’s workforce, after reiterating that while raising taxes is a last resort, tax increases could be possible for the wealthy and for corporations to balance the budget and fund education.
Corzine also claimed Christie wants to have the government out of health care totally, which Christie hasn’t said, though the Republican does oppose a public option in the national health care reform effort and prefers approaches that would boost enrollment in private insurance plans.
But the funniest few seconds of the interview came 4:06 into the interview, when host Greg Kelly inadvertently anointed Christie as the state’s chief executive:
Kelly: “We had Governor Christie here last week, and he was frustrated …”
Corzine: “Well, I don’t know he’s governor yet.”
